BRIEF BACKGROUND...
The Faculty of Forestry in Skopje at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje was founded back in 1947 as a department of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry in Skopje.
With the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Medical Faculty, and already established Faculty of Philosophy, conditions and opportunities were created for the establishment of the first Macedonian University- Cyril and Methodius located in Skopje. Today, as it is known, the oldest and largest Macedonian university named Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKiM).
Undeniable fact is that this University, whose higher educational, scientific research and applied unit we are, with pride and respect we carry the name, honour and glory of Slavic and European educators, the brothers Kiril and Metodij (Cyril and Methodius), patrons of the largest university in the country. As an inseparable part of the UKiM, with great respect for tradition, historical, cultural and moral aspects, we celebrate the highest act or graduation of the students, with the ceremonial event and the award of the degree titled graduated engineer of UKiM Faculty of Forestry in Skopje on the corresponding study program..
Historic and important event is that in 1950, the first students graduated in the field of forestry at our Faculty. That same year, the Forest Experimental Station was established within the Faculty, in order to enable and organize field and research work in more teaching and research facilities: Trubarevo, Krushevo, Karaorman, Krushino, Kitka near Skopje, etc. In 1947, at the backyard of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry we began to create one of the most interesting parks of woody plants on the Balkan Peninsula. Since 1950 the park gets today’s name – Dendropark.
In the following period the Faculty passes through more organizational reforms and developmental stages (1954, 1964, 1975, 1977, 1990, 1998, 2004 and 2011, 2013). In 1975, with a decision of the National Assembly, the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry was transformed and reorganized into two independent institutions: the Faculty of Agriculture (Sciences and Food, today) and the Faculty of Forestry.
In 1976, the Faculty of Forestry merged with the Forestry Institute in Skopje, which was established in 1944 during the Second World War, and became his legal successor.
From 1998 to 2011, teaching at the Faculty of Forestry is organized into 4 study programs: Forestry, Landscaping and improvement of the environment, Mechanical wood technology and Interior design and furniture technology. Soon after, the establishment of the new Faculty of Design and Technology of Furniture and Interior happened where respectful part of the employees started to work.
In 2004, all undergraduate academic programs introduced ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). In 2006, the ECTS was introduced in the postgraduate academic programs.
Today, the Faculty of Forestry has 3 undergraduate academic programs, 10 postgraduate academic programs and doctoral studies with tutoring system. Activities for the development of the Faculty of Forestry continue in the new accreditation of doctoral studies according to the Higher Education Act and the Statutes and regulations of the University, as well as accreditation of new postgraduate academic programs.
In accordance with our commitments and accreditation, the main mission of the Faculty is education and the establishment of a highly educated and scientific staff in the field of forestry, landscape design, eco-engineering and eco-management. Historically, there is no doubt that the UKiM Faculty of Forestry in Skopje, from the foundation date until today accomplished its mission at different times with respectable levels of success.
